According to the national PTA website, www.pta.org, the purpose of an Elementary School PTA is to “serve as a type of forum where parents, teachers, administrators and other concerned adults discuss ways to promote quality education, strive to expand the arts, encourage community involvement, and work for a healthy environment and safe neighborhoods.” What a terrific mission!

Welcome to Brookwood PTA!

A goal for the year is for everyone to feel welcome and informed. We hope that you will choose to join the PTA group for the year and get involved as much as possible. The PTA provides tremendous support to the talented Brookwood staff.

Here are some of the many ways that the 2008-2009 Brookwood PTA lent its support:

*Brought in visiting author Sarah Weeks

*Funded the completion of the Outdoor Learning Lab located in Brookwood’s courtyard which includes the development of science curriculum written specifically for our students utilizing this space

*Collaborated with our city officials, local historians and internationally known teaching artists to produce an event entitled Peacock Alley: A Community Celebration. This community event combined visual arts, performing arts, and history to bring to life the entrepreneurial spirit that made Dalton the Carpet Capital of the World.

*Supported Jonas Arts Programs

*Provided supplies for Brookwood’s Music, Art & PE programs

*Brought in talented teaching artists to enhance our “team time” curriculum

*Provided financial support for each teacher for supplies

*Helped fund field trips

*Showed thanks to our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week

*Funded new books and equipment for the media center

*Sponsored The Brookwood Ballyhoo (a fall family carnival)

*Sponsored two Scholastic book fairs

*Encouraged family fitness by hosting an informative and fun Family Fit Night and by hosting Walk to School Wednesdays bi-monthly.

Additional Fundraising Opportunities for Brookwood

Here are fantastic ways for you to give to Brookwood without having to purchase anything that you wouldn’t have already purchased. We are so thankful to these merchants for supporting our school!

Chick Fil-A for Science: Every 3rd Tuesday of the month, plan on treating your family to Chick Fil-A! A percentage of sales that come from Brookwood families will be given back to our school. We have the opportunity to raise approximately $250 each month which will offset the cost to have additional science instruction for our students. And the class with the highest food total each month wins a free chicken nugget tray. Thanks, Chick Fil-A!

School Pop: Look for icon on our home page. Shop at your favorite online merchants today and every day through www.schoolpop.com . Schoolpop’s name-brand online merchants contribute up to 20% of every purchase you make to Brookwood. You must simply start your everyday shopping at www.schoolpop.com and click to your favorite online merchants, that way our school is sure to receive contributions. Go to www.schoolpop.com to sign up. Registration is free.

Box Tops for Education: Look for the 10¢ Box Tops coupon on hundreds of your favorite products from General Mills. Simply clip and bring the coupons to the little red schoolhouse in Brookwood’s lobby. Watch for reminders throughout the year. We will count and submit the coupons and General Mills sends us cash!

Kroger: Soon we’ll be sending home a flyer with a barcode for you to “link” to your Kroger card. The more you spend at Kroger, the more they donate to Brookwood. Don’t forget to re-link your card every fall.

Office Depot: Every time you check out at Office Depot, ask that they credit your purchase to Brookwood. They will type in a code and a percentage of that sale will go to our school.
